Monitoring Visit to Marienwaerdt-OldPark, Beesd, NL
A recent monitoring visit was conducted on June 16, 2026, to the Marienwaerdt-OldPark site in Beesd, Netherlands. Observations indicated a generally high survival rate among the planted species, after spending some time looking for the trees in the forest. The sites showed a healthy mix of species, including Prunus padus, Fagus sylvatica, Alnus glutinosa, and a notable presence of healthy, well-established Ulmus laevis, a threatened species. A dense shrub layer covered much of the forest floor; however, many of the planted trees had already grown above this vegetation, indicating that this has limited effect on the trees. While the trees were somewhat smaller than might be expected for their age, this is likely due to the fact that they were planted within an existing mature forest, where light availability is more limited. At last, the area exhibited a robust natural regeneration process, typical of an established forest system.
