Observations from a visit to one of our Nice partner planting sites
A monitoring visit was recently conducted at one of our Nice planting sites in France on May 27, 2026. This plot, planted by volunteers with Life Terra trees in Spring 2024, showed signs of excellent overall growth. A significant number of the planted trees are thriving, with particularly strong performance observed among Prunus mahaleb, Quercus cerris, and hazelnut. While some conifers have struggled, their presence is noted to be limited. A notable observation was the positive influence of Sorbus aucuparia clusters, which appeared to enhance the growth and survival of surrounding trees, demonstrating increased health and resilience while naturally suppressing other species. However, competition from non-target species was also evident, particularly affecting isolated trees, whereas those planted in clusters exhibited faster growth. Some dead trees were also identified, a natural part of the establishment phase.
