Altlandsberg: Forest Restoration and Interior Edge Stabilization

About the project

The project includes two forest restoration areas aimed at establishing climate-adapted and structurally resilient forest stands. One area of about 1 ha focuses on forest interior edge development. Existing beech stands have been declining due to rising temperatures and westerly winds from adjacent agricultural land further dry the forest, accelerating dieback. A second area (~1.6 ha) will be reforested with a diverse mix of deciduous and coniferous trees adapted to future climatic conditions. Both areas and will be protected by fencing to ensure successful establishment. In total, approximately 11,000 trees will be planted (3,000 in Area 1 and 8,000 in Area 2).

Objective

Establish climate-resilient, diverse forest stands that stabilize vulnerable areas and withstand environmental stressors.

Impact

By supporting this project, you will help stabilize drought-affected forest areas and edges, reducing the risk of further dieback. It will mitigate the impact of drying winds from adjacent agricultural land, improving microclimatic conditions. The initiative will also ensure the successful establishment of young trees, contributing to long-term forest resilience and biodiversity.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Number of hectares restored

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed

  • Community members involved

  • Students involved

  • Jobs created

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
