Beukenhorst, Vucht
About the project
The Beukenhorst Estate is in the east of the Netherlands, close to the town of Vucht. It comprises 207 hectares of forests, ponds and agricultural fields, offering rich habitats that support many different species of flora and fauna. Bluebells, Lilies-of-the-Valley, frogs, newts, honey buzzards, nuthatches, woodpeckers and rare finches are all to be found at Beukenhorst.
In the last few years, the Beukenhorst estate has tried to make its forests more biodiverse and climate-proof by clearing invasive species and planting native deciduous trees instead. The estate has a high water table in parts, leading to flooding issues, and planting trees is one way to manage and minimise excessively wet land.
Objective
Woodland restoration in unhealthy forests, the planting of new forests in unforested areas, and the boosting of forest health and (climate) resilience by planting a variety of native species that are suitable for the climate, locality and soil type.

Impact
By supporting this project, you will help support the estate to further increase biodiversity on their agricultural land as well as in their forests. New plantations will support the estate’s water management initiatives and enhance its flora and fauna.
