Visiting the Casa_do_Fojo Planting Site
A recent visit to the Casa_do_Fojo planting site in Portugal provided valuable insights into the progress of the project. Monitoring took place in late April 2025, roughly a year after planting. The estimated survival rate suggests a substantial portion of the planted trees are thriving. Maintenance activities, including pruning, irrigation, and mulching, have clearly been implemented to support the trees' establishment. Interestingly, observations noted varying mortality rates among different species. Specifically, Morus nigra, Cytisus scoparius, Hippophae rhamnioides, Lavandula angustifolia, Populus alba, Populus nigra, Populus tremula, Retama sphaerocarpa, Rhamnus alaternus, and Tamarix africana were identified as experiencing higher mortality. Encouragingly, natural regeneration was also observed within the site, which has been left undisturbed to foster further growth. No catastrophic events were reported.
