Observing Ecosystem Recovery in Donana

A recent visit to the Donana Pftp site provided insight into the ongoing restoration efforts following the Las Penuelas fire. The area is currently navigating significant environmental challenges, including rising temperatures and rainfall levels below historical averages. Observations indicate that the plant population is maintaining a stable presence, with success particularly evident in the northern sectors. A strategic shift in species selection is visible, as hardier varieties like Juniper are being prioritized over Stone Pine in sandy, southern plots. Interestingly, several plants that appeared to be struggling during the dry season showed signs of regrowth following the autumn rains, highlighting the resilience of the local flora.
