From devastation to restoration: Sardinia project finished!

Nico Rosberg and Rosberg X Racing Extreme E and Life Terra have completed a transformative project in Santa Vittoria, Sardinia, planting 4,000 native trees. The collaboration aimed to restore ecosystems, enhance biodiversity, and build resilience to climate extremes after the devastating fires of 2021.

Rosberg X Racing Extreme E, a key partner, participated in the first tree-planting event, where Nico Rosberg alongside local residents and children planted the first symbolic 60 trees.

The MEDSEA Foundation is now closely monitoring the area. Initial analyses revealed some issues caused by a high number of wild boars, along with persistent drought and unusual weather patterns.

However, failures are being addressed by replacing them with other wild olive trees or alternative oak species that have proven successful.

Context of the initiative

In the summer of 2021, the Eastern region of Sardinia faced one of its worst environmental disasters when wildfires engulfed over 25,000 hectares of land, destroying wildlife, communities and the entire ecosystem.

In response, MEDSEA (Mediterranean Sea and Coast Foundation) launched the Hope for Sennariolo initiative in collaboration with the Life Terra Foundation to restore the damaged area with direct interventions on vegetation and soil.
