Forest Development at Himmighausen

During our recent visit to the Himmighausen site (municipality Nieheim), observations highlighted the steady progress of the new forest. Annual maintenance efforts, such as the management of competing vegetation and protection against deer browsing, have supported the establishment of the saplings. A majority of the planted trees are thriving across the different sub-areas, though certain species like silver and Douglas fir show more sensitivity to local wildlife. The area is transitioning away from its previous state as a spruce monoculture, with natural regeneration of birch, maple, and ash further enriching the site biodiversity as it matures.
