Site Visit to Landra, Portugal

A recent site visit to Landra, Portugal, provided valuable insights into the progress of the planting efforts. Monitoring took place on May 8, 2025. It was noted that maintenance activities, including irrigation and mulching, have been carried out. Interestingly, there was evidence of natural regeneration occurring on the site, which has been allowed to continue. Despite a wildfire affecting the area, observations suggest that a significant portion of the planted trees survived, particularly smaller trees sheltered by the existing canopy. The pre-existing vegetation structure seemingly played a role in mitigating the fire's impact. However, a higher mortality rate was observed in some broom species due to pre-existing root problems.
