Mapletree Replants Former Ash Forest at Mariënwaerdt

On 12th February, volunteers from Mapletree’s Amsterdam office took on the challenge of tree planting at Mariënwaerdt, undeterred by overcast skies and heavy clay soil. Jackets and fleeces were quickly shed as the team got to work, efficiently transforming the muddy riverside site into a well-organized planting area filled with mixed-species saplings. The rain held off, and after a productive session, the group enjoyed refreshments in the company of local stable horses.

This planting initiative focused on restoring a former monoculture ash forest that was severely affected by ash dieback. While ash remains a suitable species for the area, the project aims to improve forest resilience by introducing a mix of six native species alongside it. This approach will enhance biodiversity and increase the health and survival rates of the new forest.
