Monitoring Progress at the Doñana Reforestation Site
A recent monitoring visit to the Doñana site highlights the ongoing restoration of the area following the Las Peñuelas fire. Observations indicate a steady transition toward a natural landscape dominated by junipers and savin trees. Although approximately half of the planted trees have established themselves, the density remains sufficient to meet long-term ecological targets. Notable successes include the Wild Olive and Narrow-leaved Phillyrea, which have adapted exceptionally well to the environment. However, some Stone Pines have struggled in areas with significant wind-blown sand. To maintain the integrity of the site, future efforts will focus on replanting specific sections with hardier species to ensure the restoration remains on track.
