Site Visit: Moradas Campo Azalvaro
A visit to the Moradas Campo Azalvaro planting site in Segovia, Spain, provided valuable insights into the project's progress. The site, monitored on April 30, 2025, showed promising signs overall. Evidence of maintenance activities, including pruning, watering, mulching, and the removal of protective measures as plants matured, was observed. While the estimated survival rate suggests a healthy establishment, observations indicated that certain species—specifically oak, Scots pine, holly, and hazel—experienced higher mortality compared to others. Despite the challenges, there was no evidence of natural regeneration at this stage. The site has faced several adverse weather conditions, including pest issues, hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and periods of drought, highlighting the resilience required for successful reforestation in this environment.
