Visit to the Mula Planting Site
A recent visit to the planting site in Mula, Spain, provided valuable insights into the progress of the project. Twenty-four monitoring spots were assessed to gauge the overall health of the planted trees. While a considerable portion of the trees were thriving, the assessment showed that some trees had been affected by the lack of rainfall, particularly in areas with shallow or exposed soils.
Despite the dry conditions, there were encouraging signs of ecological recovery. In areas with slightly better moisture levels, there were indications of increased biodiversity, with small insects and new vegetation appearing around the healthier trees. This suggests the land is gradually being restored in areas with more favorable conditions.
Maintenance efforts had been focused on mitigating the effects of the drought. Mulching, weed removal, and reinforcement of protective guards had been carried out to support the young trees. Targeted watering was also implemented in the most vulnerable areas. Continued monitoring will be essential, especially if dry weather patterns continue. Focus will be on improving water management and soil moisture conservation techniques.
