Visiting Quinta das Abelhas Planting Site
A recent visit to the Quinta das Abelhas planting site in Portugal offered insights into the progress of the agroforestry project. The monitoring data, collected on May 5, 2025, revealed a generally positive outlook. Maintenance activities, including pruning, irrigation, and mulching, have been implemented. Observations suggest that while the majority of the trees are thriving, some species, particularly cypress and strawberry trees in unirrigated areas, experienced a slightly lower survival rate in their first year. Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including hail, heavy winds, heavy rain, and drought, the site shows signs of natural regeneration, which has been left undisturbed. The trees are reported to be growing well within the diverse agroforestry setting, indicating overall good health and integration within the ecosystem.
