Visit to Planting Site Voedselbos-Vierhoeven

A visit to the Voedselbos-Vierhoeven planting site in the Netherlands provided valuable insights into the progress and challenges faced. The monitoring date was April 30, 2025. Maintenance efforts, including irrigation and mulching, had been implemented. Certain species exhibited higher mortality rates, specifically Duindoorn (Sea Buckthorn) and Olijfwilg (Oleaster). Natural regeneration was noted. A significant challenge encountered was drought conditions. It was observed that the initial plant sizes were perhaps too small, leading to replanting efforts. Although the area remains a challenging spot, the replanted seedlings appear to be developing well. Overall, the site presented a mixed picture, where a little less than half of the initially planted trees have been recorded. This suggests a need for continued adaptive management and careful species selection for this location.
