A Visit to the Garfe Reforestation Site

A recent visit to the Garfe reforestation site in Portugal provided a valuable look at the progress of the project. The site, part of the ReflorestarPT initiative focusing on water line restoration, was established during the 23/24 planting season and monitored on May 26, 2025. Evidence of regular maintenance was apparent, including ongoing irrigation efforts. While the estimated survival rate of the planted trees is under half, natural regeneration is taking place, which is a promising sign for the long-term health of the area. It was noted that, despite the overall growth, the region had been affected by wildfires. Decisions were made to leave the naturally regenerating plants undisturbed, allowing them to contribute to the site's recovery.
