Santa Clara a Velha keeps planting trees

The Santa Clara a Velha Ecological Restoration project is Life Terra's biggest project in Portugal, with more than 65 ha restored using 7 different species.

This project aims to restore a former exhausted eucalyptus monoculture and transform the land into a biodiverse food forest. This will allow for soil recovery, natural regeneration, and defragmentation of the habitat, and will also produce fruit and pine nuts for the landowner as a form of revenue.

Furthermore, this project is certified for carbon removal and biodiversity credits, and this winter's plantation aimed to plant 7,500 plants as a way to make up for the mortality of the previous years.

This area suffers from severe droughts, and the previously exhausted soils and the presence of wild boars make the planting of new saplings in the first years a necessity in order to achieve our restoration goal. This shows that Life Terra's commitment to ecological restoration is a long-term view!
