A Visit to Bosque da Raposa Planting Site
A recent visit to the Bosque da Raposa planting site offered valuable insights into the project's progress. The site, established in 2023/24, showed a generally positive outcome in terms of tree survival, despite facing environmental challenges. The estimated survival rate suggests a robust establishment of the planted trees, with most saplings thriving. Maintenance activities, including irrigation, mulching, and pruning, have been implemented. Observations indicated that some species, notably avocado, experienced higher mortality rates compared to others. Encouragingly, natural regeneration was also observed, with a decision to allow it to continue undisturbed. The site has been subject to drought conditions and variable rainfall patterns across seasons, impacting the irrigation regime. Despite these challenges, and the heavy reliance on natural factors, the area maintains a good level of plant survival and has been monitored on a monthly basis.
