V Sustainable Development Entities Open Day

The V Sustainable Development Entities Open Day held on February 17th, 2023, at the Universitat de Barcelona, marked a significant gathering for public and private organizations dedicated to social and environmental causes.

Here's a summary of the event:

Organized by the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, and Environmental Sciences, this open day aimed to introduce bachelors-level students to various entities actively engaged in sustainable development initiatives. These students would later collaborate with one of these entities for a class project as part of their curriculum.

A representative from Stichting Life Terra, Aroa Gregori, presented the Life Terra project to the students. The proposed project involved trialing a tree monitoring tool developed by the Technology Working Group in two different plots near Barcelona. These plots, Bellprat and Terrassa, were professionally planted in previous years.

The event provided a platform for networking and collaboration among participating entities. Stichting Life Terra seized this opportunity to engage with local entities dedicated to social and environmental causes, resulting in ongoing collaborations with organizations like SOMESQUEIX.

Furthermore, students expressed keen interest in participating in projects presented during the open day. The project proposed by Life Terra received significant attention, with a group of 5 students selected to carry out their Service-Learning project with the organization. This involvement will include fieldwork, online meetings, and in-person visits to the Stichting office in Barcelona, spanning from March to the end of May 2023.

The V Sustainable Development Entities Open Day exemplified the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange in advancing sustainability efforts, fostering meaningful partnerships between academia and organizations working towards a common goal of environmental and social well-being.
