De Groente Amsterdammer
About the project
De Groente Amsterdammer is a community farm that grows around a hundred different types of fruit and vegetables on the Rorik Estate in Beverwijk. They operate regeneratively, using no artificial fertilisers or pesticides, and harvest and deliver a super-fresh package of produce every week to various pickup points around Amsterdam.
Their aim is to promote the consumption of seasonal, organic produce, which emits minimal emissions, to reach consumers because of their proximity to the farm. The planting of both trees and hedges across this location will accelerate the conversion of land from grassland to rich, diverse and healthy hedging and woodland.
Objective
The Groente Amsterdammer needs more fruit trees to increase its fruit production and replace existing trees that have died or are sick. They also require hedging around the orchards to protect them from the area’s strong winds, boost biodiversity, improve site drainage and provide habitats for pollinators and other plant-friendly insects.

Impact
By supporting this project, you will help De Groente Amsterdammer to plant more fruit trees, thereby increasing fruit production and tree cover. The planting of productive hedges will improve soil quality, provide wind protection, boost water infiltration and biodiversity, store carbon for decades, and increase landscape value. At the same time, it will support an agroecological system that represents a model for local food production and its supply to nearby cities.
