Eikenburgbos, ‘s-Hertogenbosch: afforestation

About the project

This project involves the afforestation of an existing low ecologically valuable grassland area containing a small pond, located adjacent to an existing forest. The aim is to establish a diverse native woodland that will expand and strengthen the surrounding forest ecosystem.

This work is key to enhancing biodiversity, improving water retention, and increasing soil quality. In addition, the new forest will create a stronger ecological connection with the adjacent woodland, providing additional habitat and supporting the movement of wildlife across the landscape.

Objective

Turn a degraded grasaland into a thriving forest with native, biodiverse, productive, and climate-resilient species.

Impact

By supporting this project, you will help restore degraded land with productive forest cover, enhancing ecosystem services in the area. It will improve soil quality, boost water infiltration and biodiversity, store carbon for decades, and increase landscape value.

How do we measure this impact?

  • Number of trees planted

  • Number of hectares restored

  • Tons of CO2 eq absorbed

  • Community members involved

Location of the plot.

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • health
  • clean water and sanitation
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
