About the project

This project is unique within one of the most intensive, fertile and production-driven farmlands in the Netherlands. The farmers aim to pioneer towards a more extensive, nature-inclusive system using the principles of Agroforestry. They work within a nationwide network of Agroforestry in the Netherlands. With this project, they want to realise a 900-meter-long hedge.  This project is key to enhancing biodiversity, stabilising soils and inspiring other farmers to move towards agroforestry or ‘nature-inclusive’ practices.

Objective

Making a radical change by turning a very productive farmland into an extensive and nature-inclusive landscape.

Impact

By supporting this project, you will help a bottom-up initiative to set up a broader systemic change within the Netherlands, moving from intensive farming to a more extensive and nature-inclusive way of farming. This 900-meter hedge will improve soil quality, boost biodiversity, store carbon for decades, and increase landscape value. At the same time, it will support an agroecological system that generates long-term revenue for landowners, strengthening local capacity and resilience.

Supporting this project means supporting the following SDGs:

  • zero hunger
  • Decent work and economic growth
  • consumption
  • Climate Action
  • Life on land
  • Partnerships for the goals
