MasdelaCova Planting Site Visit
A recent visit to the MasdelaCova planting site offered valuable insights into the project's progress. The site, located in Spain, showed evidence of ongoing maintenance, including irrigation, mulching, and pest control, indicating a proactive approach to supporting the young trees. While natural regeneration was observed, suggesting the ecosystem's inherent resilience, a notable observation was the variable survival rates among different species. Specifically, Quercus suber seemed to exhibit a higher mortality rate compared to others. Furthermore, the impact of a recent drought was evident, presenting a significant challenge to the overall success of the planting efforts. Despite these challenges, many trees have survived, demonstrating resilience in the face of adverse conditions.
