Visiting Wild Finca Asturias
A recent visit to the Wild Finca Asturias planting site provided valuable insights into the progress and challenges of the restoration efforts. Monitoring data collected on November 2nd, 2025, indicated a moderate survival rate among the planted saplings. Maintenance activities, including pruning and mulching, have clearly been implemented. However, observations revealed that certain tree species, notably dogwood, have experienced a higher mortality rate than others.
Interestingly, natural regeneration is occurring within the site, and a conscious decision has been made to allow it to continue. The site has faced some significant setbacks. A drought and pest infestations were reported. Additionally, the presence of Arvicola scherman (a type of vole) has led to the die-off of some trees due to root damage, posing a difficult-to-manage challenge for underground protection.
